I'm Daryl. My main work is developing driving instructors and educators — and I still teach learners every week, because you cannot credibly train someone to do a job you have stopped doing.

A driving school sells lessons. It allocates you an instructor, books a slot and works through a syllabus. That has its place — I run one, and it is a good one. It has its own separate page.
Instructor Daryl is the teaching itself, delivered by me. Most of that work is developing other instructors and educators. The rest is teaching drivers directly — learners, and licence holders who never felt in control of a car.
Structured teaching, honest feedback and skills that hold up long after the certificate is filed away. The car is simply where it happens.
I do not sell time. I do not sell a guaranteed pass, and I will not quote you a number of lessons before I have seen you drive. Anyone who does is guessing.
Why I still teach learners
If I am going to teach it, I should still be doing it.
Plenty of instructor trainers stop teaching learners. It is an easy drift — training pays better, the hours are kinder, and nobody checks.
I have chosen not to. Every week I am still in a car with a real learner, on real roads, dealing with the same conditions, the same nerves and the same test system as the instructors I train. When I tell an instructor how something should be handled, it is because I handled it on Tuesday — not because I read it in a manual in 2016.
That is the difference you are paying for, whoever you are. The learner gets an instructor who is held to a trainer's standard. The instructor gets a trainer who is still doing the job.
What you can book
Different people, different problems, the same standard of teaching. If you are not sure which one you are, ask — one conversation usually settles it.
For PDIs working towards qualification and ADIs who want to be better than the standards check requires. Taught by someone who is still doing the job every week.
From your first time behind the wheel to test day and the first months afterwards — the part most people are left to figure out alone.
For drivers who passed but never felt in control, stopped driving, had a knock, or are facing a road they have been avoiding for years.
Two hours minimum, because less rarely achieves anything. Shorter where your needs genuinely call for it.
Schools, colleges, employers, community groups and instructor associations. Sessions built for the audience in front of me, not read off a slide deck.
Tell me the audience, the room and the time you have. I will tell you what it costs.
Guide prices. You will always be told the full cost before you commit to anything, and I will tell you when you do not need something.
How I teach
Being told what to do produces drivers who need telling. Being asked the right question produces drivers who can think for themselves at a junction I am not sitting at.
What went well, what did not, and exactly what we are working on next time. Written down, so progress is a record rather than a feeling.
Nobody is a "bad driver". People are under‑taught, rushed, or were never shown the one thing that made it click. That is fixable.
The test is a checkpoint, not the destination. I teach for the thirty years of driving that come after it.
Who you are dealing with
DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, working across Northamptonshire. Chair of the Kettering and District Driving Instructors Association, and Director of Verulo Group Ltd, which works across driver education, road safety, training and community engagement.
Being trusted to chair an association of instructors, and to train instructors myself, means the standard I hold my own learners to is the standard I am asked to hold other professionals to. That is the whole proposition.

Further afield is usually possible. There is a travel cost, and I will quote it up front so it is part of the decision rather than a surprise on the invoice.
I do not take calls while I am teaching. If you are in my car you have my full attention — and so does the person after you.
